About Me

Since graduating from Loughborough University, I have spent the majority of my professional career as a librarian in higher education. Having lived in Loughborough for 40 years, I have always been interested in the town and its history and in 2012 I trained as a Leicestershire Tour Guide, specialising in Loughborough, offering guided walks and talks. Keen to share my love for Loughborough and promote the town, in August 2013, I began blogging at lynneaboutloughborough, and I continue to write for this blog on a weekly basis.

With a desire to learn how I could discover more about my adopted town, in 2017 I attained a qualification in local history from Oxford University, which has helped me to focus my research, and develop my writing. I have published articles on local history and contributed to many local history research projects, including participating in an HLF project for St Paul's church, Woodhouse Eaves. I am currently a committee member of the Loughborough Archaeological and Historical Society, and an Honorary Member of the Loughborough Library Local Studies Volunteers.

My local history interests are many and varied, and I further my knowledge through membership of a wide variety of societies, including the Leicester Industrial History Society, The Leicester Civic Society, BAHL, The Milestone Society, The Letterbox Study Group, The Pub History Society, The Inn Sign Society, The Churches Conservation Trust, The Society for Clay Pipe Research and The Society for One-Place Studies.

I support many local history-related organisations through either the Friends scheme (like the Friends of the Great Central Railway, and Lichfield Cathedral) or by attending talks and lectures (like those delivered by the Friends of Charnwood Museum, or the Woodhouse and Woodhouse Eaves Local History Society, and the Heanor & District Local History Society), and by participating via selected Facebook groups (like the Quorn Local History Group, William Railton, architect, Remember Loughborough and Taylor Bells Appreciation Society).

My local history books are published by Amberley: ‘Loughborough in 50 Buildings’, published in 2018, and 'Secret Loughborough’ published in 2019. 'A-Z of Loughborough' was due for publication in August 2020, but was postponed by the publisher, eventually being released in August 2021. The manuscript for my latest book, 'Loughborough pubs', was submitted to the publisher in May 2022, with a publication date of January 2023.

My life isn't all about local history though, and I have a wide variety of other interests, including singing (prior to March 2020!), reading, and walking.

If you wish to contact me, do please email me lynneaboutloughborough[at]gmail[dot]com making the usual substitutions. I'd love to hear from you!
